Handwashing with soap is a simple, effective, and low-cost preventive intervention to reduce the transmission of infectious diseases. This community service activity was conducted as part of the 2025 National Health Day in Tongkaina Subdistrict, Manado City, aiming to improve community knowledge and skills related to proper handwashing practices. The activity employed an interactive health education approach combined with a six-step handwashing demonstration based on World Health Organization standards and hands-on simulation involving community participants. Evaluation was conducted using direct observation of handwashing skills through a structured checklist and assessment of participant engagement during the activity. The results showed an improvement in participants’ understanding of critical handwashing moments and its role in infection prevention. Most participants were able to correctly and sequentially perform at least five of the six recommended handwashing steps after the demonstration and guided practice. High levels of participation and enthusiasm were observed throughout the activity, indicating good community acceptance. In conclusion, handwashing education integrated with practical simulation effectively enhances community capacity to adopt clean and healthy living behaviors. This model is recommended as a replicable and evidence-based community empowerment strategy to support infection prevention efforts at the local level.
