Abstract

Dental caries is a disease of dental tissue that causes tissue damage. Dental caries can occur due to the wrong brushing habits and the habit of consuming excessive cariogenic foods. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the habit of toothbrushing and consuming cariogenic foods with the incidence of dental caries at SD Gmim Ratahan, from February to May 2022. Method: A quantitative reseach with cross sectional design was used. There were 120 respondents of 171 total population were participated in this study. Data were collected using purposive sampling techniques by using questionnaires and analyzed by using spearman rho statistical test with significant for habits toothbrushing and dental caries p-value = 0.001 < α = 0.05 and for consuming cariogenic food and dental caries p-value = 0.001 < α = 0.05. Result: The results of this study showed that 75.8% of children who had habit of toothbrushing with sufficient category, 98.3% of children who had habit of consuming cariogenic food in the sufficient category and 95.8% of children who had dental caries in the existing category. Conclusion: This study could be concluded that there is a relationship between the habit of toothbrushing and consuming cariogenic foods with the incidence of dental caries.
